Theremins rock.
Mr. Segal appears to be doing a limited run of his machines again. I have one of the last ones on reserve, and hope to have a new WaveFront Classic, within a couple weeks. *crosses fingers*
This video has given me the best look at the craftsmanship of the Classic, to date. It's very hard to find good photo reference of them on the net.

I always remember the Theremin score of The Day The Earth Stood Still, it just stuck in my mind when I first heard it.

Pitch accuracy is very challenging on this instrument, yes. Dynamics are hugely important. If you want a taste of dynamics done well, check out Clara Rockmore's video of "Vocalise." The more theremin playing I hear, the more convinced I am that the control of volume is the soul of the instrument.

that's pretty sick

Great video! Never seen it before....
I have watched many vids of the theremin and how it works over the last 24 hrs... and the explaination that this thereminist gave finally made sense and bell rang! Ding, ding, ding, ding!
Antena + distance= wavelength (which is pitch) and the closer to the antenna the wavelength looks like sharp spikes and the further away it looks like gentle curves! "I can be taught!" LOL
(It doesn't look as impressive, the way I "wrote it" but, it hit me like a ton of bricks!)
Thank you! Thank you! :)

@BirdOfParadise777 Thanks, and congratulations, pleased to help.
Also it is important not to missunderstand one thing: the distance from the hand to the pitch antenna has 'physically' nothing to do with the wavelength, despite it would be very beautiful and similar to other instruments like trombone, strings, wind in general...

@Trombonauta "One can control changes in pitch with the right hand." and "The greater the difference between the two VFOs the higher the pitch." Would you please explain how I am missunderstanding it, or, what I am missing? Thank you for the help! :)

@BirdOfParadise777 Maybe you didn't missunderstand it. What I mean is that sometimes people thinks of the distance from the hand to the antenna as they think of distances in a cello string: if you want a octave you have to use one half of the string. That isn't how the theremin works. ;)
