  • i been losing it deciding if i should duracoat my AR. right now its still looks top notch but i want it to be like a light greyish maybe a mid greyish color, i don't know though, i'm worried it wont hold down as good as the factory finish while its hot from rapid shooting. i know they have the high temp duracoat but im scared it will scratch up easy and then ruin my original finish. then i will be pissed lol

  • @ThermalSh0ck Let the old finish wear out first I say. Then get someone to media blast it to make a new surface. From there you can decide. IMHO, if I wasn't in the low rung of the monetary scale, I'd like to cerakote or gunkote my guns.

  • you can also use a hair dryer between dusting it helps the alumahyde dry a little faster between coats. Ive also done two 1911 and two glock frames and hung them in the oven and baked them at about 275 degrees for about 2-3 hours was cured the same day.

  • @blkenuff Yes! The hair dryer thing does work.

I didn't do the oven thing cuz the wife would've had a fit if I used the oven for baking non-edibles. LOL!!!

  • @blkenuff Thanks for the input. Maybe if I get a large enuff toaster oven I can do the baking thing too. LOL!

  • You should show a few durability tests for the Alumahyde. Specifically with things like brake cleaner and acetone. I know both gunkote and durabake wont be phased by either, since I have used both. Havent tried the alumahyde though, so would be interested to see.

  • @DragunBreath Sounds good. I do have a cheap muzzle brake that's been coated. I'll mess with that one.
