  • Fuel racing sucks these days..theres less and less cars..and too much money keeping tons of good people away from the top classes.. they should set limits on the cars, run single mags like the old days and that will open up people to racing in these classes and bring big car turnouts like the old days..dont see no 30+ cars fields no more..damn shame

  • totally avoids the issue. they haven't done anything to make it better, as far as the racing goes.

  • @ziggassedup The city planer has no say in the matter. Most of these tracks were built on farm land to begin with, and the city grew up around them. The tracks are all private property, not city properties. If anyone is to blame it's the track owners, they purchased a parcel of land that simply wasn't big enough to make their tracks future proof. At least THAT future proof. Most of the tracks are built on land that was purchased in the 1960's. They didn't go 300mph in 1960.

  • @Polybun ..What the city planer must have thought was that drag racing wouldn't last or the times get quicker...A big shame.

  • @ziggassedup The problem is that, at several tracks, cities have grown up around them and there is no where to expand too.

  • @thevmanvj I remember when close to 100...and sometimes, Over a 100, TF's (especially) would show up

to make a 64car field !!!....before the days of " corporate money " showed up...and we could well

head back to those days (well, maybe not THAT many "cars")....as corporate boardrooms have, and are,

taking a real hard look these days at that kind of spending...especially fuel racing & the ever increasing

costs of it. Something NEEDS to change, SOON, if TF & FC are to survive much longer.

  • I think the 1000 ft mark is fine.....I mean approx. 80% of their ET is in by the 1/8th anyway...and for the sake of some mph at the top end...I think if that extra 320 ft saves a drivers life....why Not !??! I also very much agree with Prudhome and his view, especially the cost factor...if they keep going the way they are...TF & FC will price themselves right out of racing, especially with corporate's cutting budgets as they are now. Remember the days of 32 & 64 car TF & FC fields!??!

  • Afterthought: This year at the Annual March Meet in Bakersfield, they had over 40 Nostalgia Fuel Coupes show up to try to make a 32-car field. Over 40 Top Fuelers as well. How cool is THAT!

  • The problem is Drag Racing as a whole has been using tracks with the same amount of shutdown area for over 50 yrs,and Fuel cars are going 120-150 mph faster than they were 50 years ago. We don't need 300+ mph speeds. The NHRA should consider using a combo similar to Nostalgia F/C's where they're restricted to one fuel pump feeding 60-70 gpm.Crew Chiefs will have no choice but to slow the blower down. Nostalgia Floppers run in the 5.80's @ 240.They're cheaper, safer, and they put on a great show.

  • cheers 3fan...most of those old tracks were built when a t/f dragster ran 7's and maybe a high 6 but if we're not carefull the powers that be will end up having 60foot T/Fraces....who will be the first to post the first .25@200mph?I know that i'm being a bit extreme but to me drags are a 1/4 mile....always..No jets allowed...lol.
