Lane describes the Pilot snake. We took a short trip and found a LONG snake!!!

  • Sooooooooo, Pilot snake is another name for black rat? That was one huge ratsnake though. Great find.

  • Yeah man. The old timey name was "Pilot snake" because the settlers would see the black rat snakes and know to start watching for rattlers, coming out of or going into the dens. We like the history of the names and myths that go with them as much as the science... Thanx for watching!!!

  • Saturday we went to our favorite spot to tape the Osage Copperhead and found very little of anything!

  • man, that thing was a beast! funny, we went out today, flipped tons of stuff - nothing but lizards, all the snakes we found we out on the move.
