I think I know what is going on here. Lecter hates rude or distasteful people. But she doesn't come at him as a mother, she comes as a senator with her lackeys and her petty packet of agreements to quibble over. Lecter reminds her that her daughter's life is at stake, and still she insists on decorum. So basically he said that raising a daughter only did more to make you put on more of a front, and when she dies, it'll just make you even less of a mom and more of the professional bitch you are.

not at all, Hannibal Lecter is extremly inteligent, a cult man, educated, appreciator of art, music, food, literature, a psychiatrist. Charles Manson is just an insane man, a failed musician, acid eater hippie,he is dumb, his ideology was completly non-sense, people think he was a genious of manipulation but he wasnt, him and his "family" lived in a hippie community, they used to take a shit load of acid constantly, it is not too hard to convince someone tripping balls that you are jesus christ

Greatest actor ever, in my opinion it takes more skill to snap into a role just like that on set than forcing yourself to stay in the role even while not filming
