Loxley police are looking for three men who they say robbed an elderly woman.
reports the crime happened at the woman's home in the middle of the day.
94-year-old Estelle Hayes has been saving and saving to have her house painted. She says all that money was taken away last week by three men who came to her door.
Estelle Hayes has always felt safe in her Loxley home.
"I've been here about 68 years...68, 69 years."
But three suspected burglars changed all that.
"This has really got me upset. I'm going to tell you how it all happened."
The 94-year-old says she saw a car pull up.
She went out to greet the visitors, but they walked past her into the home.
"'I'm sent here to survey your old home' is what he said. I said 'I don't need that, will you go back outside?'"
She says the men told her to sit down while they looked at her kitchen tile.
Hayes says one of them started walking around her home, but she was too scared to say anything.
The men stayed about a half hour, then left.
"Something just let me know they were here for no good."
Hayes checked her purse and saw money was taken from it.
"They got well over a thousand dollars."
It was the money she'd been saving for a new paint job.
She's hoping for the money back and for the men's capture.
"I want them to, because it might save somebody else. I hope they catch them. I hope they can catch them."
There is some good news at the end of this story. A volunteer fire department and two churches are donating their time and money to help Hayes paint her home.
Reporting in Loxley, Jake Peterson, Channel Three News.
Surveillance video from a gas station near Hayes' home shows the Crown Victoria car the men were in. Officers say a white pickup truck following the car may also be involved.
