@boosra yeah i did think they will be retuned to keep them running and save money.
but as you say people seem to get over excited and quote some silly figures of their performance.they forget todays cars are double the torque.
no doubt superb cars to watch.i doubt some who believe the s4 at estoril myth have seen a 1400hp f1 in qualify trim.

Ah, you are right of course, much nonsense is said about Group B cars - about beating F1 cars and fantasy BHP estimates and whatnot.
I felt the need to dig through the old stats though, cos It seems people are slipping too far in the opposite direction. The "slowly sideways" cars we see at Chatsworth etc perform nowhere near their '80's prime, not even in the ball park.
I guess the truth, as with most things, is somewhere between the two extremes. Cheers! :)

@boosra i agree, they certainly are fast cars, but peoples sense of realism gets clouded with nostalgia
it never ceases to amaze me how anyone can give the s4 at estoril myth any time what so ever.a quick view of mansell qualifying in 86 will bring that home to the doubters.
i saw gpb's at chatsworth and i thought fook they quick.then an e stobart wrc focus took off and it was a differant level altogether.
i also like how you research rather than just believe everything :-) thumbs up

Well, everybody who knows what they are talking about says that, but it is not strictly true.
The times on the few apparently untouched stages from the '80's are much the same:
Sweden 1986
SS4 Rammen - 21.70 km - Salonen, Timo - 11:22 - 114.55 km/h
Sweden 2011
SS19 - Rammen - 22.76km - Hirvonen, Mikko - 11:55 - 114.55 km/h
There are some where the WRC destroys the group B's, (bendy ones presumably ), but a couple where group b wins, and most are quite close.

Today's rally cars, by the rules of the sport, are restricted to 300hp but they have like 600ft-lbs of torque. They also have to run a 2.0 liter engine. If there were no regulations they could easily pump out 600hp.

@Imasundaj From its start till the late 90s. Most dramatic is the evolution and esp the turbo phase. Do yourself a favor and look into it.

@evilintel im affraid a modern wrc would actually desroy the times of a group b car
there are even some rather stupid people who think an s4 is as quick as an f1 car
-
@mustachos1993 Actually, Ferrari proposed the 288 gto evoluzione as their car for group b, but they never really entered, Porsche did entered group B with the 959

@Imasundaj When Group B was around.
if only theyd bring back group B

They should bring back Gr.B. Even now with the lower power and better technology, there are still as many accidents and fatalities. I would love to see a 1985 Delta S4 in full power conffguration slaughter all the current WRC cars.
