The problem is that the 1% can buy ads that scare the right wing with impunity, the right are the larger part of this problem, whereas the left are trying to actually solve it.

Pass this video on as much a possible. See Lawrence Lessig's new book "Republic Lost" that discribes this in depth. See the website getmoneyout com to sign a national petition to get this started.

We need a reform that would allow compromise solutions in place of partisan bickering. We should not have to choose between the most democratic democrat and the most republican republican. We need leaders who could make unpopular decisions and take the economy off the noxious stimulants, even if it means recession. No one should be "too big too fail". Insurance against systemic risks should not be paid by the taxpayers.

What is needed is a two-fold reform: 1) Reform of the political system in the direction of direct democracy, so that people can have a direct say in policy- and law-making and a real stake in their communities (as opposed to the current system of representative democracy, which is eminently flawed and corruptible by money and corporate power), 2) Reform of the socio-economic system, to prevent excessive concentrations of wealth and power in the hands of a tiny elite.
