  • @lilobiwe1 It is not a disease. There is no microbe, virus, bacteria, malformity, cancer cell, or any other invading organism that causes it. It is caused by a conscious decision to continue the self destructive behavior. It is a condition of not taking responsibility for your actions. Whether is is hard to quit or not does not quantify it as a disease any more than being a liar or a thief is a disease.

  • And I stole it BACK !!!Yes you can take it back!! Who cares it"s a great song!!!

  • The idea that addicts can stop whenever they want is a myth. If it was that easy then more people would seek sobriety. This idea persists that most people enjoy being addicted to drugs, or being on the streets, etc. This is mostly false. Due to socioeconomic status, depression, anxiety, stress, and unemployment, many people find themselves unable to cope, hence the need to take drugs. Initially, drugs make a person feel better. Addiction is a complex disease.

  • Absolutely. Addiction is a disease. There are still many people who believe in the moral model of addiction, which dates back to the Temperance Movements that date back to the 1800s. This mindset still exists today and pretty much perpetuates the idea that addiction is sin, and the addict needs to be saved and so on. Even the scientific community had labeled drug addiction as a disease. It is time for the rest of the country, and world to catch up.

  • @pitbull8myguitar Also keep in mind that a "progressive illness or condition that eventually leads to death, lower quality of life, or a shortened lifespan" is the very fucking definition of a disease.

  • @pitbull8myguitar Addiction is a progressive illness that WILL eventually lead to death or a shortened lifespan. For example, smoking can lead to cancer. Alcoholism can lead to liver failure. Many STDS can be cured and also prevented, but that doesn't make them any less of a disease. You make a choice to have unprotected sex. Lets start telling people with syphilis they don't possess a real disease, too. Sounds like a plan, huh?

  • @crayblev1 They do it over and over again because life on junk is preferable to the affective disorders they possess. Sober life becomes unbearable for them and they find relief through opioids. They choose to stay on the drugs due to either trauma, depression, anxiety or a combination of the aforementioned maladaptations. To cure the addiction, you must address the issue(s) that lead them to the drug. Be glad that you don't understand addiction; be glad you've never felt that low.

  • Only addicts can understand it. It's useless trying to0 get a non-addict to understand that shit.

  • @pitbull8myguitar then explain to me why people do it over and over and cant stop. knowing what will happen, but not caring. you just have to be in that position i guess. just like i cant judge you or the things you've been through, because i simply dont know. and you're right, it is terrible.

  • @crayblev1 That doesn't make it a disease just because you cant beat it. It certainly is real, and it is a condition, and it is terrible but it isn't a disease.
