Both skip away and cigar were very good older horses, but with a record of 18 out of 38 skip away lost a hell of a lot of races. As a 3 year old skip away was a much better horse than cigar by winning 2 G1s, the JCGC and the woodbine million, as for cigar, as a 3 year old he managed to go 2 for 9 winning a maiden special weight and a 36000 allowance.
Both ran good races and I even have to say that Louie ran well that day. It was a bob of the head that decided it. Not sure if anyone saw it but it looked like Cigar had a nose in front 1 jump from the finish. Skippy was owned and trained by Monmouth Park connections, my local track, and I liked the fact they continued racing him. His owners did well by the horse and always felt they needed to give back to the racing industry by doing so unless it endangered the horse. 1st class people.
