@CodeGreen47 Because their body is so used to being in a weightless environment, that they depend on their body to float like they could when they were in space. But when they come back to earth, they don't have that same dependibility they had for their body to float like they did in space.. If they did try to walk when right from space, they would most likely just collapse.

Keep in mind, that dust cloud is mostly the result of thrusters firing immediately before impact.
