James Cotton and The James Montgomery Band at Olde Mistick Village Art Cinemas, Mystic CT May 20, 2010 joined by David Foster singing the B.B. King hit "Every Day I Have The Blues". (I ran out of memory before I could get the entire song.)

David Foster founded the former Shaboo Inn in Willimantic, CT and also the Shaboo All-Stars Band (now known as the Mohegan Sun All-Stars). James Cotton and James Montgomery were two of many notable bands and musicians who played there in the '70s. It was closed in 1982 and then destroyed by fire. http://shabooinn.com/index.html/3

David Foster - vocals
James Cotton - harmonica
James Montgomery - harmonica/vocals
David Hull - bass guitar
Seth Pappas - drums, percussion
George McMann - lead guitar

  • Afterward Johnny invited him to party with them as the upstairs was where the bands stayed. He thought it the greatest thing. A girl told me Todd Rundgren & band didn't have their stage clothes on time & started off playing in their underwear, then the clothes came. There's a great little story about Tom Waits at the link I provided. Aerosmith mentions in their book some, ahem, times there back in their beginning. Wish I had been there! And yeah, 2 really good harmonica players here. Thanks.

  • Well it's funny there are no comments on this. The Shaboo was fantastic, what great times I had there and James cotton and James montgomery where the bands to watch. There's only one more mile to go :).

  • @Piezonno Don't know why people don't comment. I was too young for the Shaboo in the 70s but I've heard anecdotes from various people around your age. A bunch of greats played there & upstart bands, so I've got stories. The place was grimy, gross bathrooms, dark, smoky, real low ceilings, drunken nights, but they loved it. I saw Johnny Winter last night in New Haven. A guy had told me back in the early 70s Johnny let him sit on the speaker on the stage which was small. ctnd.

  • Here's Part 2: Does anybody remember when the Shaboo started making veggie burgers? It was around 1975. At first we thought they were weird (we had never heard of them) and then we started to like them. I could go on forever - the Shaboo was the best joint in New England to hear music, and the crowds were great. Thanks Leftie for all the good times and I'm looking forward to seeing the All Stars soon.

  • The Shaboo was the Joint! I hit it the most in 1975-76. Got to know Leftie and he introduced me to BB King. Stayed there one night varnishing the bar until about 3am with Leftie. Saw James Cotton there one night and my friend and I brought in a pint of whiskey - we had a couple swigs then handed the pint to James. He took a drink and passed it around the band. When he handed it back to me it was almost empty. I held it up and got a round of applause.

  • I remember the smoke in that place was so thick and the music so load and the lights going on and off it looked like the smoke was moving. I haven't seen a place like it since. Those where great times in the 70's when music was at it's peak and it was all alive. I always thought that James Montgomery would be much more popular than he has been. I tried to follow him but had to grow up and get a job:) and move on. Those concerts actually helped us all in a small way. The gals used to love to go
