In this tutorial, Sean Duggan, the co-author of "The Creative Digital Darkroom" shows you how to merge different Lightroom catalogs and move files between hard drives so that the work you've done in the Library module is preserved and Lightroom always knows where your images are. This technique is especially useful if you have created a separate catalog while on vacation or on a location shoot and now need to merge it with your main Lightroom catalog.

  • Thanks. Yes, an updated video covering how this is done in Lightroom 3 is planned and will hopefully be posted in a few weeks.

  • excellent tutorial! thanks for creating this.

  • Great info and lesson! Any update for Lightroom 3?

  • Awesome information, thanks for sharing.

  • Very helpful and clear, thank you. John

  • Two things: 1. The volume on this is kind of low - I had to put everything on max and I was still straining to hear.

    2. What if I have backup catalogs on different drives, having now been through 2-3 computers, Lightroom 1 and 2, etc. Can I get all of these different backup catalogs into one place? How do I know which catalog is my "Default" one at this point? Do I just choose one to be the "default" and then repeat this process over and over? Thanks.

  • Thanks, very useful. Easy to follow.
