  • The ones on the right look a little "odd" to me, they seem larger than tenors and the mouth piece is older looking.

What are they and why are they shaped as they are?

I love this piece, its absolutely wonderful.

  • Hi jesslafleur,

These instruments are two Bass recorders in F (415) made by Yamaha. They are Baroque onstruments, but not really modelled directly on a museum instrument (e.g. the Denner Bass recorders that are left). As you see, we never play this size of baroque instruments with dwindcap and tube. By blowing directly into the wondway, you have more possibilities in sound production, we think.

    Hope this answers your question!

    Kind regards,

    Tom, for FRQ

  • suoni affascinanti e suggestivi.......grazie!

  • Congratulations!

    A composer from Hungary

  • @leoram1988 It's a Contrabass.

  • Johann Herman Schein is fast becoming my favourite composer, and this is one of the reasons why. Congratulations on a stunning performance!

  • i like how there's a ton of beer bottles down by their feet!

  • ha... i just saw all the beer bottles at their feet...

  • Superb!

I just wonder what the largest recorder is: an subcontrabass or an octosubcontrabass one...

  • Yhe older person on the right side is not in performances in 2008. Why?

  • @frquartet It's amazing how many (high) bass recorder players never try without the bocal, and end up missing out on a whole different sound potential.

Fortunately we're now in the era of knick basses so perhaps the day of using a bocal on the high bass is coming to a close.

  • The only music I will never tire of listening to, the baroque recorder's tone must be the building blocks of my Aryan soul. I beg these songs be the last I chance to hear.
