If you want to be a trekker, you can start your trekking with sandakphu-phalut trekking. The route is very simple, but it will give you a heavenly experience. The best time for trekking is April to mid-June and October to December. You have to start your trekking from Manebhanjang (6300 ft). After reaching at Manebhanjang, you should contact with Masterji Jiwan Chetri at Hotel exotica. He will guide you about the route. He will arrange your porter/guide (rate: 250-300 INC/day). He can solve your accommodation problem in the way. He is like a living legend in Manebhanjang. So, talk with him with due respect. He will arrange everything for a very reasonable price. So, don't bargain with him. charge your mobile and battery. No electricity is available after manebhanjang. In the day 1, your destination is Tonglu/Tumling (11k.m). You can take tea break on the way at chitre, lamaydhura and meghma. on the day 2, after watching the sunrise at kanchen dzonga, start your walking to kalpokhri,Nepal(14 k.m). you can take tea-break at tumling, jobari, gairibus and koyakata.kalpokhri means pond of black water. it is a very sacred pond for both Hindus and Buddhists. The silence of kalpokhri village amazes you. The small private trekkers' hut welcome you for night stay at kalpokhri. On the day 3, start your trek for sandakphu (6 k.m). You can take a tea break at bikebhanjang (2 k.m). From bikebhanjang, sandakphu is 4 k.m. But this last part is very steep. Dont take any short-cut. Just follow the actual path. sanyou can see complete range of kanchen dzonga and everest from sandakphu without any obstraction. On day 3, after sunrise, leave sandakphu as early as possible. Because, today you have to complete 22 k.m path for phalut. Next 8 k.m, kanchen and everest accompany you. The valley will make you mad. There is only a single forest office at sabargram(14km).Better to carry your food.Because, there is only one person to attend you, who may be absent for that day. Trek another 8 k.m for phalut. phalut means 'land of wind'. the top is 1.5 km from trekkers' hut. No other accomodation is available here. So,the booking of DGHC hut is must only for phalut in this route. Next day, at 4:30 a.m, leave your bed. Because, to watch the sunrise you have to trek 1.5 k.m up-hill. Cloth properly for phalut. because, it is very difficult to trek in that very high wind velocity. Come down, finish your breakfast. Now you have two option. option 1:you can stay gorkhey(12 km). two rivers meet at gorkhey. Next day, trek for rimbick(19 km). from Rimbick, you can go darjeeling by cab or bus.option 2: back to sabargram. Trekking down to molley, upper sirikhola, sirikhola (total 25 km trek). Enjoy the night at the river bank of sirikhola. Next day trek 6 k.m for rimbick.
