Lesson 3 in my EagleCAD tutorial series. In this lesson we will start a schematic for a real working circuit. In this case, a voltage regulator, filter caps and an LED. We will cover some new tools, point out some quirks of Eagle and pitfalls to avoid.

  • Before I highligt an error, I would like to thank you for taking the time to do the videos. Very helpful!!!

I suspect the power jack is reversed. The center pin is usually + on the vast majority of power adaptor supplies. Good that you have a diode in series!

  • Actually, I should have pointed out that that particular library is ass-backwards and I have to connect it the way I showed for it to be properly connected. If I did'nt the center pin would be negative. My only guess is, this was created by someone in Europe and they tend to like reverse polarity.

  • hey thank you Jason,

because of your lessons I was able to design my project for the circuit course using Eagle instead of using note and pencil

    I'm waiting for more lessons.

I'm wondering if I can use Eagle to test the output of my design (simulation) and if I can do it could you please show me how ?

  • Great to hear! I am wokring on more lessons to upload, but I am having to find time between my day job and running a seperate company.

  • To potentially help someone else out, make sure you use the netlist button to draw connections from one component to another. The line to use just used for general marks.

  • thanks man! really cool!

  • It is strange that CadSoft manual tell us to use the NET tool (3rd symbol from the bottom on the toolbar, looked like a greyed out and bent toothbrush) to connect parts. However, you tell us to use the LINE tool. I got a lot of errors using the line tool even if i connected them but after learning about NET tool, i got it right.

This is a very important function that i think you must correct. Frankly, i have reason to doubt your skills when you teach such fundamental errors.

  • @rpcelectronics there was indeed a mistake on the symbol but on the actual pcb trace its accurate, believe me i tried and already used it a couple of times now

  • I made a circuit in Eagle and now I want to make physically on a breadboard but it's too complicated to figure out where to put all the pieces - chances are I'll screw it up. Is there now way to make Eagle automatically figure out the locations?

  • i want to learn what all this means so badly but i must wait........ untell at least 10th grade

  • Thanks a lot!

  • What's the difference between "wire" and "signal"? Thanks! Great vids!

  • Thanks man!

  • Cool, I can teach you something, hit ESC on the keyboard to exit a tool instead of clicking move or double clicking a wire end
