With an even number of glasses upwards it's impossible, by turning 2 each time, to end up with an odd number upwards.
-
There is simpler than that... Turn the left and the right glasses upside 1st, then turn 2 downside and upside again.
-
it impossible i did exactly what you di and it said i was wrong
-
the cups are upside down of the original solve
-
i saw this trick already as the first time you did it the order was down up down. after you finished fixing it you put the glasses in a order that is up down up, so it is impossible because you put it backwards for us
-
Since the order of the glasses doesn't matter, each of the first two moves are "wasted" as the input and output are both, 2 down, 1 up. The puzzle is always one move away from being solved, and yet the problem is to solve it in a fixed number of moves, which any arbitrary target will suffice: Solve in X moves, waste X-1 moves, then perform the "win" move.
Despite it's trivial solution, I'd like to see if my 10 year old niece can figure it out.

Love this puzzle - tried it a few times - even after i noticed they weren't set out the same as your demo. V impressed!
That would be an awesome bar trick. That is as long as it doesn't get the stuffing kicked out of me.

I worked in bars for years and used to do this all the time, after they've had a few beers you can have someone puzzling over this for hours!
