As with most disasters, the facts of the cause will not change, the evidence to convict those responsible will more than likely disappear. Please explain why my government is now offering to buy up these flooded areas? Is this an after thought or a plan already in action for years? And then, my next question is WHY? What does my government know, that I don't know, about this land & it's importance in the future? US citizens must have the answers..

For 18 years now, the Corps has been funded annually by Congress to acquire up to 166,750 acres of land from willing sellers along the Missouri River to mitigate loss of habitat from the Missouri River Bank Stabilization and Navigation Project. Periodically, letters are sent to landowners within the floodplain to determine if they'd be willing to sell their land at Fair Market Value. The timing of 14 letters, sent in May and early June, was unfortunate, and we regret any distress caused by them.
