If I send for my baby, and she don't come
If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
All the doctors in Hot Springs sure can't help her none

And if she gets unruly, thinks she don't wan' do
And if she gets unruly and thinks she don't wan' do
Take my 32-20, now, and cut her half in two

She got a .38 special but I believe it's most too light
She got a .38 special but I believe it's most too light
I got a 32-20, got to make the caps alright

If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
All the doctors in Hot Springs sure can't help her none

I'm gonna shoot my pistol, gonna shoot my gatling gun
I'm gonna shoot my pistol, gotta shoot my gatling gun
You made me love you, now your man have come

Ahoh, baby, where you stayed last night
Ahah, baby, where you stayed last night
You got your hair all tangled and you ain't talking right

Her .38 special, boys, it do very well
Her .38 special, boys, it do very well
I got a 32-20 now, and it's a burning

If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
If I send for my baby, man, and she don't come
All the doctors in Wisconsin sure can't help her none

Hey, hey, baby, where you stayed last night
Hey, hey, baby, where you stayed last night
You didn't come home until the sun was shining bright

Ahoh boy, I just can't take my rest
Ahoh boy, I just can't take my rest
With this 32-20 laying up and down my breast ..

  • I once heard that Chet Adkins said Dolly Parton couldn't sing. Porter Wagoner convinced him otherwise---finally...Chet seemed to be a little cocky and arrogant. Sure, he brought two part harmony guitar playing to the masses---but I wonder if he ever listened to this track by Mr. Johnson? Big Bill Broonzy was also laying down a palm muted two part harmony before Chet was famous. Thanks for this great post!

  • @AllBobsAllTheTime Found it!!!! Skip James

  • I can't remember whose song was Johnson covering here ..

  • This track puts such a huge smile on my face <3

  • @Milestones01 Its his lyrics there so advance for the day, imagine saying "squeeze my lemon until the juice runs down my leg" in that era? people couldn't get away lyrics like that till the 60's, he just pushed the envelope in everything he did and took the blues to a new level.

  • For a change of pace and great slide guitar listen to Blind Willie Johnson. His lyrics are religious so if that bothers you so be it, but he's a great singer, narrator, and slide player. He does a great version of John the Revelator.

  • I think he's a better singer and guitarist than most of them. Especially the singing part. And he made a lot of recordings. But part of his fame is probably having written Crossroads, which Cream made famous. Variations in tempo and so are not exactly outlawed - this is delta blues y'all!

  • @Milestones01 Don't worry, you're not alone. Robert Johnson is fantastic, don't get me wrong, but all this mythology about how great he is and so forth is a buncha bologna. He was a great bluesman. But Son House, Charlie Patton, Skip James, Muddy Waters, Lightnin' Hopkins, Blind Blake, Blind Lemon Jefferson, et al were just as good or better. Don't believe the hype. Kudos for your enlightenment.

  • I swear his tempo always changes..and this song is one of the better songs I have heard ...tempo wise..I like other bluesman of his era the same or better ..I am missing what makes him better than other guys from 1890 to 1940 .people say Phrasing or writing and singing ..I don't know I guess I've always wanted to hear a profound difference.

maybe I am just not familiar enough with his work...he actually goes against the grain for me..
