why in this day and age can we (as a human race) not have at least attempted this with the 911 incident then?, surely the US have numerous helicopters which could have been used and authorized to fly in close proximity in order to rescue doomed people on the upper floors. baffles the mind

@coastalman226 He isn't blowing anything out of proportion. The fire is creating what is called an artificial thermal column, not an up draft. This column rotates within a cylinder, hence why the flag is not flying upwards, but sideways. The helicopter has to fight this column, which sways the rescuer from left to right. And thermal columns can be larger than the actual fire sight, it's just the initial source that sparks it.

I tear up everytime I watch this. Watching the skill of the pilot and the bravery of the firefighter both putting their live's on the line for a stranger is absolutely beyond fucking words. Heroic doesn't even cover what these guy's do every day. When people say 'It's their job', it annoys the hell out of me. It takes a special person to do what they do every day and it should never be taken for granted. With all the shit in the world, these people put my faith back into humanity

the base of the building was weakening, so what happened after the rescue? did the crane just topple over? did they put it out?

Ok got to respond to this, the subtitle's coming up on the bottom of the video say's the fire was creating strong gust's of air, it doe's which is called an up draft. The air the chopper is fighting is from the wind gust from that day, look at the flag which isn't near the fire or the smoke being blown away from therescue point. Quit blowing thing's into what they aren't.

I watched this on the news live, I had tears in eyes when they landed. I thank the creator everyday for giving us firefighters, police and EMS.
