  • @remieize Because it showed the Confederates winning a battle, as if General Lee never did. With the movies, "Gettysburg" and "Glory" they should Union victories and/or Union valor.

  • Really stilted, awkward and clunking soliloquy- even if Chamberlain was a professor or rhetoric and would actually waste such time before a battle showing off his ability to recall [which I can't believe he would actually do, anyways]. Also, are the writers here REALLY comparing the Union army marching into their own backyard with Caesar's crossing of the Rubicon? Guys, I know your target audience for these films is the South but can we have at least have a pretense of even-handedness, please?

  • @LukeWapelhorst stupidity of the critics. The south wasnt evil, they defended their way of life, as anyone, good or evil would do. (and im a northerner!)

  • makes me proud to be a mainer!

  • @piratebri Caesar was driven by arrogance, there was corruption yes but rather than try to reform he just imposed a dictatorship and ended the only major republican government in the West for about the next 1800 years.

  • @DukeofWellington91 In his last days, yes, but he was a great liberator for the people when he marched on Rome. The Senate was corrupt with Pompey supporters, and the people were suffering. Caesar changed Rome, and thus, changed the world.

  • @DukeofWellington91 he was reffering to the roman civil war between ceasar and pompey.

  • @kkash011 we still fighting that war , the ideals that led to that war exist today.

  • defending their homes or not they still betrayed the Union and defended an immoral system that bonded a whole race of men as slaves part of being in a republic is somtimes losing your majority in the government and having to deal with the side and their ideals that you dont like until the next election not starting a bloody rebellion

  • @LukeWapelhorst i think from a movie perspective, it is exactly scenes like the one in the video that turns a lot of people off... we all get the idea of "citizen soldier" or how noble people from that period may get, but the long monologues and protracted/repeating battle scenes are technically not that enticing... I think rather than historical, the film is more literary and even poetic at times, not good unless you get hyper-emotional for these type of stuff...
