How to replace the background in your video?
How to make you sit in front of a nice background using "green screen effects" or "blue screen effects"?

YOU NEED:
1) green background.
You can paint your wall if you have a room available. But you can also just buy a green muslin. You MUST PAY ATTENTION that it is the correct green color tone. Therefore I recommend you google for "chroma key" to identify the right color!!!

Be sure you get the correct colour of your backdrop. Therefore I suggest you buy from a professional supplier - AND THIS YOU CAN FIND CHEAP at ebay! I bought my 3x3meters green muslin on ebay, for only $30 including shipment, from a professional video-supplier.

2) You need sufficient lighting!!
Make sure your "green screen backdrop" will be illuminated sufficiently and that you avoid extreme wrinkles in your "green screen" cloth!! Believe me lighting is KEY!!! Otherwise the green will not come out as bright as it must, in order to be properly replaced with your movie editing software later.
Avoid wrinkles as well as shadows! If there is a shadow caused by you standing in front of the screen, the shadow will later appear as a darker part of the green background and will not be removable by the video editing software!! Common mistake beginners often forget to think of. No shadows please.

3) You need a movie editing software which is having "chroma-key" / "blue screen effects" / "green screen effects" / "green screen technology" etc. to edit your video.
The software I currently use is "MAGIX Movie Edit Pro" because it is very affordable at $49.
YOU REALLY DO NOT NEED A SUPER EXPENSIVE SOFTWARE to be able to do the "chroma-key effects"!

They work pretty similar, depends what colors you prefer. For example if you love wearing blue shirts... you should use green screen.

The movie industry shifted from blue screen to using green for the most part today. I have read the reason though is not due to quality, but rather that actors got more depressed when they had to spend many days in a totally blue studio while green had a more pleasant..

Great job on the video and information. It was very simple as well as understandable. I have a thought. You say that blue screen works better for someone who is more light hair and you use the green screen because your hair is dark. Let's say your interviewing someone who is blond. Your both sitting on stools and behind you is a green screen and behind the blond person is a blue screen. Just curious about your thought on that technique? Thanks in advance.

@packleader1215 it's to do with camera sensitivity with digital video and green - green works best for keying, in the days of film - blue was the best colour.

If that color changes across the backdrop, or you have lighting hot spots, then the color is not consistent and you'll have difficulty 'keying out' the color.

Therefore, I recommend ALWAYS using good, diffused lighting to evenly illuminate what ever chroma background that you use.
