  • I believe the concern over pyrophoric effects is due to the pressure caused when firing the gun. Shot going from zero to several hundred feet per second could render the hunter the "dead duck." Rather undesirable.

  • Pyrophoric materials ignite under extreme pressure, not "spontaneously".

    DU would make great shot, unfortunately its possession is banned for civilian firearms use.

    And lead does not leach into soil, it developes a thin coating of oxidation and stays stable more or less forever.
