@myxklptk Maurice Williams wrote this and his group the Gladiolas released THE FIRST version of this song. The Diamonds released a COVER version and had the big hit as happened with many cover versions of songs released in the fifties.

@686204 It is not true that USA stations didn't play black groups. The Platters were huge all over the USA, as was Jackie Wilson, Ruth Brown, Drifters, Coasters, Searchers, Crests, Nat Cole, Ink Spots, and I could go on and on. Television came to the south slowly, and was slow to feature blacks, but I don't think it was because of air play hesitation. Lodging was a problem for blacks in the south. Mahalia Jackson famously boycotted Louisiana because of ill treatment. But we bought her works!

@bargainmom Relax, I am nostalgic for the 20s and 30s, and even 1894. I was there for the 40s and up, but we didn't think America was booming. Minimum wage was raised from 50 cents to 75 cents an hour during the 50s. In the South where I lived, gas was around 25-35 cents a gallon, and a hamburger was 25 cents, cup of coffee about 5-10 cents. Food was taxed, and probably still is, in La., but not in Texas. There was a "luxury" tax on cosmetics and a lot of the niceties girls wanted, for the war.

This group is The Diamonds. They were a Canadian group. The original members were: Dave Somerville, Ted Kowalski, Phil Levitt, and Bill Reed. Little Darlin' was written by Maurice Williams. It was released on Mercury Records (U.S.) in March, 1957. It was #2 on the top 100 for eight weeks. LIttle Darlin' was also covered by The Gladiolas and, more recently, by Elvis Presley.
