IT'S EYEDAY! WOOT WOOT! This parody of the famous song "Friday" sung by the famous singer "Rebecca Black" is for all the ophthalmologists and eye lovers out there!
So the story goes that my little hedgehog, Eiji, happens to be both a gigantic fan of Rebecca Black as well as an aspiring ophthalmologist. However, as we all know, species-ism is rife in the NHS, and her application for a specialist post in ophthalmology was inevitably rejected. :(
I wrote this song in dedication to her and her shattered ophthalmologist dreams, although I would not dare claim that I know anything about the specialty in the least! I'm only a third year medical student. We all know that real ophthalmologists have no time for silly things like this! :)
I did try my best though, so please forgive me for any inaccuracies in the lyrics. Otherwise, enjoy!
This song was sung from the point of view of trainee ophthalmologist, and was made with the intention of encompassing as many sub-specialties as possible.
First verse: Generic ophthalmology sentiments in the a.m.
First chorus: Tumour and Glaucoma
Second verse: Cataract surgery (with the obviously superior 'Divide and Conquer' technique), complete with our most favourite complication -- PCR! (Posterior Capsule Rupture)
Second chorus: Hypothetical consequence of creating a PCR. Add a dash of panic and a pinch of terror!
Third verse: Typical day-to-day schedule of a trainee ophthalmologist
Rap: ARMD (Age Related Macular Degeneration)
Third chorus: Strabismus
Fourth chorus: Blepharitis, Chalazion, Stye, and of course AMPPPE (Acute multifocal posterior placoid pigment epitheliopathy)
(I know that it is sometimes APMPPE but I don't care :P)
