The Party
Glen Cove, NY 1960

This took place in two backyards - ours and our next door neighbors' - who was George Barnes (guitarist) & his family. My dad, Arnold Fishkind (bassist) knew a whole lot of musicians, as one might guess. Jack Lesberg (bassist) lived in our neighborhood and was also there. Others attending were Johnny Cresci (drummer), Mark Hyams (pianist) and his wife L'Ana Hyams (Saxophone), Joe Muro (guitarist) and his wife Dottie, and a whole bunch of musicians I did not have the pleasure of knowing. The high degree of talent there was truly amazing.

I believe Mark Hyams was behind the movie-8 camera. More names and details will be added as musicians are identified. This is currently a challenge, as most folks I tried to contact have passed away in recent years. But some are still around and I'm looking forward to their consultation.

Since the original post, these musicians have been identified by Alexandre (Barnes) Leh:

Cliff Leeman, Hank D'Amico, Billy Bauer & his wife, Milt Hinton, and Anne Lesberg.

  • Isn't the guy at the end with the pipe Nat Hentoff and perhaps his wife? Sure looks like him from the period - CW

  • @coldwar1952 - I don't know. I needed a lot of help identifying these folks. A few I knew personally thru my dad, and many visits/family get-togethers. Such is the life of a musician family. I waited too long to start inquiring, because a surprising amount of them passed away only in the last few years. Believe me, I tried to reach many. And the one or two that remain are so la-di-da and passive, just too tired to really take a look and try. So, here were are, asking all the questions. :-)

  • George Barnes was the one wearing those wild & crazy cutoffs. He and his wife Evelyn, and daughter Alexandre were great neighbors.
