@Gwairais Oh yes I did. That's why I decided to try it with a knife. Seems that the barrel stored nitroglycerin or other similiar stuff.

probably not. nitroglycerin is detonated by impact much like C4. when you shoot the barrels in stalker, the barrel will have a tiny release of smoke before it blows up. if it were nitroglycerin, it would explode with only one bullet, and depending on how old it is, hitting it with a knife probably wouldnt detonate it.
