Mike Bossy scores on Boston in Game 6 of the 1983 Conference Final at the Nassau Coliseum. Bossy, one of the greatest snipers ever, fires a patented laser beam past a helpless Pete Peters. The New York Islanders went on to win their 4th consecutive Stanley Cup.

  • Mike bossy was very good but all the people that talk about the pace he was on are kind of funny. It's called prime people, also known as peak years. Those who think he would score 60 goals til he was 40 are crazy. Plus the 50 goals per year is a convenient cutoff. When you compare the 9 fist seasons of Gretzky to bossy Gretzky restored his goals per game, look it up, bossy was scoring 50 and 60 while Gretzky strung together 4 consecutive years of 71 or more, including 87 and 92 goal years.

  • @triplerdad

In the entire history of the NHL, name ONE other NHL player other than Mike Bossy to score 9 straight 50 goal seasons? Just one. go!

  • @leafyutube ...I wont dispute that but from 81-82 - 84-85 4- seasons gretzky averaged over a goal per game 1.02 goals/game for 4 years straight...while bossy averaged .77 goals per game during that same period..and gretzkys 87 goal not his 92 goal season was his best and would was on pace for 103 goals but missed 6 games with a shoulder injury.

  • @triplerdad

The fact that you're even comparing Bossy to the all-time goals and assists leader provides strong indication of how truly great Bossy was.

  • I just watched a clip of Lafleur scoring a similar goal in the 78 Finals vs. Boston. They were both elite snipers, the best of their era, & although Bossy couldn't skate as well as Guy & perhaps wasn't as flashy, I'll take Bossy over Lafleur. He was as good a playmaker, a better defensive player & had a quicker release. The stats also don't lie. Lafleur never got as many as 147 points, or 69 goals, or 84 assists in a year. Bossy did all those things. Best right winger ever is Mike Bossy.

  • @dzanier

Agreed. Third all time in points per game after Gretzky and Lemieux. Need we say more?

  • There's never been a more consistent and better sniper than this guy. Lafleur may have been better play maker but even that's debatable. Lafleur was more dynamic, more flamboyant, but Bossy's career-high in assists is 84, and Lafleu never had that many, nor did he ever have as many as 147 points. Bossy was such a smart passer. Nothing out of the ordinary or that would catch your eye, but it's definitely an underrated part of his game. An absolute pleasure to watch.

  • bossys career totals are inflated because he went out to injury @ end of his prime mike bossy was a great great player but...

    bossys first 10 years

    752 573 553 1126 .76 goals per game and 1.5 points per game

    gretzkys first 10 years

774 637 1200 1837 2.37 points per game .82 goals per game..if gretzky got injured at year 10 bossys numbers would be destroyed similar results when comparing too lemieux..bossys 17 goal three peat in the playoffs is simply amazing tho and will never be touched

  • Wayne Gretzky Edmonton Oilers 80 92 120 212

    Mike Bossy New York Islanders 80 64 83 147

    Peter Stastny Quebec Nordiques 80 46 93 139

    Dennis Maruk Washington Capitals 80 60 76 136

    Bryan Trottier New York Islanders 80 50 79 129

    Denis Savard Chicago Black Hawks 80 32 87 119

    Marcel Dionne Los Angeles Kings 78 50 67 117

    Bobby Smith Minnesota North Stars 80 43 71 114

    Dino Ciccarelli Minnesota North Stars 76 55 51 106

    Dave Taylor Los Angeles Kings 78 39 67 106

  • in addition denis maruk scored a few goals less and a few points less than bossy that year in that great east. Trottier scored 50 goals and had a huge season and 4 of the top 5 scorers were in the east.

  • the east being such a beast is a myth...

The breakdown of Gretzky`s 1981-82 season:

vs. Smythe Division:---32GP---75 Pts--- 2.34 PPG

    vs. Norris Division:---18 GP---53 Pts---2.94 PPG

    vs. Adams Division:---15 GP---35 Pts----2.33 PPG

    vs. Patrick Division:---15 GP---49 Pts---3.27 PPG

  • Tough to compare Bossy to Gretzky goal scoring wise, as they played on two different style teams. Who knows how Bossy would have fared playing for the Oilers, durinig his career. Probably alot more goals during THAT time at least. It was such a great priviledge watching each, along with the other greats of that time. Such a special time.

  • @leafyutube yes, but 1st in goals per game, ahead of gretzky and lemieux, oh and look up playoff goals, bossy is the only player with 17 three years in a row

  • @triplerdad look at the teams gretzky played against, only 1 team was over .500 in that conference., where our conference had about 7 in 82. that conference was terrible. bossy would of got 90, 100, or more

  • @triplerdad if bossy played in that weak, weak, weak conference, he would of scored 100 goals. bossy played in a much tougher, physical, defensive conference where gretzky feasted on winnegeg, calgary, vancouver, and so on. also bossy is the only player that scored 17 goals 3 years in a row in the playoffs, where it counts, while gretzky only netted 12, 13 and 16. bossy is the greatest goal scorer in the history of hockey, where he avereaged more goals per game than anyone
