Mucc took over

@theindiefanclub If a band is going to cover a song and make it "completely" their own, then there's no point in making a cover. It has to sound a little like the original at least. The only reason I'd be able to tell what this song was, is the singing, because I know the words. I get what you are trying to say, I just think they chose the wrong song to do, that is all.
-
@StayFreeYourMisery which they did. That their guitar playing isn't strong is also a matter of opinion. How good hide was doesn't matter. They were invited to play, and and honour his memory, by playing one of his songs in their own style. They took it more seriously than if they'd just copied one of his songs and played it on stage. I see your point, but in the end, I think it all boils down to personal opinion, and there's no point in debating to argument, especially not over the internet.

@StayFreeYourMisery But they did know the notes - they knew the notes to the cover THEY had arranged. The only thing with the solo is that he accidentally muted some of the notes he shredded at the beginning of the song, and there was a note that he didn't quite bend enough. And then they did a harmony which sounded a bit odd, but was still in key. And especially when you're changing a song to your own style, nothing can be too challenging, because you just cut out/change the bits you can't do,

@theindiefanclub better song choice for them. That song was obviously too challenging for them. There isn't anything wrong with that, I'm not trying to put them down or anything, I like a few MUCC songs myself. I just personally believe that they bit off a little more than they could chew. hide is a legend. It was a MEMORIAL CONCERT and should have been taken seriously as well as having fun in many aspects, and that includes a thought out and planned choice of song.

@theindiefanclub In all honesty, it was "okay" until the solo. Now, it doesn't matter how "original" a band's cover is, knowing the notes is needed for the song. There's a difference between making a cover original and making it unrecognizable. Great guitar playing is hide's strong point; I'm not sure what MUCC's is, but it isn't guitar playing. "Dice" is a song almost created to the guitar. They shouldn't have picked that song; "Rocket Dive" or "Lassie" would have been a better song choice for

@StayFreeYourMisery They totally made their song their own - despite whether or not you like it, a good cover is that a band made it different to the original, while maintaining the original ideas in the song. Whether or not the cover sounds good, that is up to opinion. As a song, it wasn't something that I'd have on my ipod, but I can tell that it's a good cover, because of what they'd done with it.

@theindiefanclub Disagreed

Jesus the quality is so shit! D'espa (and hide's memory!) deserve better! Seen them live :)

Really ... it's a song and performance for respect for hide. I think they did just fine. I think really everyone did alright at this concert except MUCC ... that one wasn't too good but D'espairsRay did fine. And even if they didn't do that great of a job, they're just having fun remembering hide. No reason to insult them. I honestly think that hide would really appreciate this. :3
