At the end of 2009 we rescued the last dancing bear in India, however recently we have learnt that some bears have been smuggled out of India into Nepal where they are being danced and so we are actively working with our partners Wildlife SOS to rescue these bears and bring them in to our sanctuaries. International Animal Rescue supports the rehabilitation of the Kalandar tribespeople who 'dance' the bears. They are taught new trades to help them support their families and enjoy a better way of life. Every Kalandar who surrenders his bear receives 50,000 rupees to start up a business. Examples include a cycle repair shop, a carpet weaving business, local grocery shops and rickshaw drivers. In return the Kalandars sign a legally binding contract promising never to acquire another bear.

There are 105 bears left to rescue. All we need now is funding in order to build more dens to accommodate them in our sanctuaries. As soon as we have the funds, we can bring them in!

It's hard to believe that anyone would defend this shameful cruelty, as if, to support themselves, people must exploit, mutilate, torture, and try to humiliate animals (people really only humiliate themselves). I'd rather die than resort to such stupidity and cruelty. Thank you for rescuing these bears!

If i ever saw Pakistan people or whatever they are doing this i would probably cut the stick they make it dance with away from the bears nose and beat those people teeth in that did that just so they can get a feel for what its like then get a giant rod and punctuate it through there nose connecting it to there lips and tie there hands behind there back and make them dance and if they didn't do something right i would curb stomp them till i dent there face in. tie each other up not animals.
