@tklogan111809 It is not important:. you can check any version of the Opera, even the Pesaro none are so brilliant, so funny and full of such enthusiasm as the Vienna of 1988.. I cant understand that Classica which has the tape did not publish a DVD of this maestrissima presentation. Try to gather such a castunder Abbado with the Vienna Philharmonic!I have a poor tape quality of this performance which I look at when I feel depressed. It should be reimbursed by the Social Security in Paris!lol!

NO one can sing this like Montsy Cabbage, what delivery! Except that no one knows what she's singing, what language and who wrote it. Certainly not Rossini. I prefer to remember the great Lucrezia Borgia and the great Salome of the past.

Yes, funny onstage etc, and a lady of the stage she is, BUT she is not singing Rossini. One cannot understand the words she sings, they are rounded off too much. She goes from little screams and piani to approximated cadenzas, falsetto effects, changes in tempo and timing. The previous year, her ERMIONE in Pesaro was a personal disaster, despite some inspired moments. Such bad phrasing and tempo shows disrespect for the composer, the work, and the audience.

E' un peccato..prchè qualche anno dopo a Londra nel 92 farà lo stesso ruolo in una forma decisamente migliore..timbro, portamenti ed intenzione comunque di classe suprema..anche qui!! Indiscutibilmente la più grande!!!

Ma l'idea di farla cantare con i "manifesti" di quando era giovane è un colpo di genio. Più che un vero personaggio,la sua Madama Cortese è un "cameo". E di certo non è un ruolo dalle mostruose difficoltà, come ad esempio Semiramide...

@ofiammasoave Finalmente un commento ben scritto e giustissimo: non avrei saputo fare di meglio! Le interpretazioni della Caballé degli Anni Ottanta e Novanta sono scandalose, piene di arbitri e del tutto prive di gusto e musicalità. Certo è una simpaticona ed è sempre stata astutissima a nascondere certe (troppe) magagne, ma qui siamo all'ignominia. E non parliamo di Ermione!
