  • Hello Michiko,

If you visit EMDR.com there is a section that shows the results of research when using the EMDR method with war vets. Also in 2011, Tricare Insurance approved the methods use for payment because of the positive results reported in the research. Congratulations to you for seeking effective answers for a better life.

  • I explain to clients that a couple of things happen when bilateral stimulation begins in the care of a trained practicioner, 1. when a memory is brought up that the client is ready to process, the memory will likely become more vivid and the brain will move to the next related memory on the same neural pathway. A lot of traumas become repressed memories because they are inefficiently stored and unprocessed in the brain. EMDR can help the client w/ processing of that memory/and efficient stora

  • This is quite interesting. Thanks for the info. My counselor suggested it today. I must admit I was quite nervous and I still am. I know there is a great deal of emotion under everything. I'm not too sure if I'm ready to cry and cry in front of her. I'm quite private in my tears due to a vow and experience in my past. I wonder if I'll be overwhelmed with emotion. Can I stop if I start crying? Will I be aware that I'm crying? Listening to others helps me know it'll be ok.

  • @discern82 You will be guided through the process. Share all your concerns with your counselor. Your feedback will help him/her help you. Most of my clients are amazed at the effectiveness of the process. Good luck to you.

  • What are the results of EMDR on War vets? I'm looking to change therapy...

  • @discern82...I too have been a client of EMDR. I have been doing it a While now and I too have not cried. Feelings for me and emotions were not allowed while I grew up and now at 41 I still haven't been able to cry. I have fear as well that once it starts I won't be able to stop.We are now working through what she called blocking beliefs. I can say from my experience that if you have a very patient, caring therapist, you will be o.k. Just stay with it and don't give up! Best of luck to you!

  • Can EMDR help you remember repressed memories?

  • Thanks for posting this. I have always had a difficult time explaining this process! -A
