There was silence as the last note hung in the air. I was speechless. This guy had musical talent.
So whatd you think? he asked quietly. Was he nervous? Is he kidding? That was- indescribable!
That was- wow. That was indescribable! I smiled. Im sure if it were possible for vampires to be warm, there would be warmth radiating off my skin right now. I just wanted to smile hugely- and I didnt smile much at all. I wasnt really comfortable showing my teeth. I dont really know why, Im just not.
Thats a good thing, right? Nick asked, unsure. I smiled.
The very best. Then there was a long pause. What was that about? I asked. He sighed.
I wrote that a little less than a year ago when I found out I had diabetes, he replied reluctantly.
Ehmagawd, you have diabetes? I asked, shocked. I guess I really shouldnt have been, though. He couldnt be perfect, and he had seemed to be before this. He nodded silently. I sighed. Id go on and on about how sorry I am, but Im sure youve gotten that way too many times before. And frankly, Im not about to say sorry when it isnt my fault, I said, throwing in some humor at the end. Then he laughed, and the smile on his face made my heart skip a beat. Well, it wouldve if my heart was beating. No, no, no, this could NOT be happening, I could not be falling for him after I just met him.
Well, Im glad I dont have to hear it again. Besides, why do people say sorry for things that arent their fault anyway? he replied, puzzled. I shrugged.
Why do people cut holes in perfectly good Swiss cheese? The world may never know. Nick smiled again, and I was somewhat glad my heart didnt beat. It wouldve been going crazy right now if it did.
We should probably get back down to the others, Nick said, standing.
Others? I asked.
Oh, right, I never told you. I have two older brothers named Joe and Kevin, Nick said, walking towards the door. He paused after he almost crushed one of my CDs; he looked around at the shelves and commented, You have a lot of CDs.
What can I say? Music is my life, I didnt say the unspoken comment I wanted to add at the end. Although I think youre about to take its place. I couldnt believe I didnt sense anything around him. I felt so blind. I followed him downstairs.
Hey guys! I hear Rhileys cheery voice as I turn the corner. Well, she can obviously still sense everything- except for what Joe was. Why was I the only one? Rhileys eyes widened for a second as she heard my thoughts, but they went back to normal as soon as she realized shed been staring. Unfortunately, not before Joe noticed.
