Since Hugo Chávez became president of Venezuela in 1998, his government has eroded political and civil rights. This, made worse by a lack of judicial independence, has led to the political persecution of hundreds of Venezuelans, some of whom are incarcerated without access to medical care or running water.

The cases featured here are a sampling of those who are harassed, intimidated, and lose their freedom merely for expressing disagreement with the government.

You can make a difference by visiting www.TellChavez.com to tell Chávez to immediately and unconditionally release all political prisoners in Venezuela.
