For ppl who like to add backlight & Power/Binding LED in order to remind user to turn off their DX7 & easier to read the binding status in front. This mod may also apply to other brand of radios.
Im sorry there r no prepared tutorial documents 4 the my DX7 mod.I cannot go back to the steps coz all the components were been modified(cant show the exact step how I mod the LCD).I hope I can do so coz a lot of ppl ask me 4.
U need a basic soldering job & related electronic circuitries knowledge to do the mod. Here's some tips:-
-http://www.radiolocman.com/shem/schematics.html?di=42787,this LCD backlight mod close to my DX7 mod.
-The power I draw is from the power switch i.e. after it switch to ON position.U can chk it by the multimeter.
-Find a pc of 3mm thickness transparent acrylic sand it with 600 grit then 1200 grit, applied vertical/horizontal force depend the LED light emitting direction.Wrong sanding direction against LED light emitting direction will give u shadow when light up.
-You can use the 3mm super light LED but u need to sand it into shape to fit into ur Plexiglass like the link shown.I used 4 pcs 3mm smd led on the top side of the acylic,it fitted perfectly into the filed notches 3mm acrylic plate.
-Once have ur LCD modded, the black LCD bracket was removed & adjust the LCD position properly, only use 2 screws to fit ur LCD board,u'll hav 2 extra srews(these 2 screws were used to screw the brackets.
-And for the power led,if u need a simple power led indicator then u can refer to Helifreak post.but if u need it as the binding indicator also,u'll have to remove the ori green binding led from the circuit & route the wire to ur led & forget about the 3.3V pt on the pcb.I juz relocated the ori green binding led to blue led on front of DX7 only & it appears as power & binding indicator.
At last,if u really 1 to mod u hav to pay extreme caution for the LCD module once crack I dont think u can find the part...happy modding!

  • You are changing led's power, there is no contrast control????

  • @Mateyhv1 Use any VR will make the LED backlight adjustable, see it in video @ 1:08 :)

  • Where did you get those beautiful coloured switch covers?

  • @Uniballerjimmy You can get those from RC Nitro fuel tubings.I cut away some from my old 1/8 RC nitro buggy car :)

  • I'd like to do so for free labour charge but components,in order to do the tutorial videos coz many ppl ask for.But it seems not possible,I'm in Malaysia :)...

  • OH , am miss ;)

and How you fit LCD and plastic 3mm into front cover of DX7,What with by?

I think hot gule, Is its work?

when all suitable, we should screw 2 nut of LCD PCB by easy right?

    Cheers

  • Hot glue will do the good job & removed easily.

  • i don hve this

  • @cliffkhew Hi I'm Debating between a DX7 and DX7s which has both DSM/DSMx , future proof!

  • @Mateyhv1 This is a quick and really great mod. I just finished mine. One front and one rear green power LED, and orange backlight that works only if the main switch and backlight switch are on. What you're talking about as a whole other ball game. A lot more "tweaking"...

  • @02paintball01 For LEDs, all local electronic shop. But the easiest and the best prices, Check on eBay. This user: dmmwem

  • where did you bought you LEDs?

  • @cliffkhew Thank you so much!!!!! :)
