You might have thought, as we did, that the world's most perfect, tidy, eminently usable folding soft top didn't need to be replaced by a power-operated folding hardtop. Particularly in a simple, elemental car like the Mazda MX-5 Miata, the inevitable added weight and complexity could dull its reflexes and blur its focus.

Don't worry.

  • Lol, the plastic hardtop breaks and collapses... Poor choice of words!

  • @OneOfaKind949 i disagree, i think putting a heavy, overpowered engine into a car that's always been about perfect balance and simplicity would ruin the car. you obviously know nothing about the mx5.

  • @JuggleAddict jajaja you probably born in the 50´s when everything was mechanical! but seriously, if I would preffer the hard top, is not because I´m too lazy, its because it makes the Miata looks cooler, with a cleaner line and closer to a 21th century car... besides it makes me feel safer than the soft top.

Granted, that automatic stuff has advanced technologically enough, to have a greater durability than the mechanical stuff... even if the repairs are more expensive or complex

  • @JuggleAddict

Auto windows are bound to break? You sound like you're from the 50's for Christs sake!

This power hardtop would be the only reason I would actually consider owning a Miata.

  • the 2005-present Mazda MX-5 is assembled in

    Hiroshima, Japan

  • That retractable hard-top is such a genius idea.

  • fucking great little car...wish honda wud give the s2000 another shot in a manner of this way...

  • Nevermind just saw the vid

  • .....I like the hard top even if they say its heavier mean there's aftermarket parts theres mazdaspeed I feel better in hardtops

  • I don't understand how people could find the automatic top more convenient . . . it's slower, and the soft top can be put down or up with one hand while sitting in the drivers seat. . . I would think the hardtop would be bad all around. You have to be some kinda lazy to like the hardtop : /

granted, I don't like automatic anything, I'm a firm believer that automatic windows and climate control are just things that are bound to break. . . .

  • @lovesvag69 You're not arguing with me, you're agreeing. I said the extra 70lbs makes it slower!

I have the soft top, because I didn't want 70lbs of dead weight, and I drive it with the top down most the time
