In 1989 Hurricane Hugo struck the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Graham Miller Insurance Agency was able to use some pieces provided by Channel 10 to produce this piece. It was during this hurricane that WBNB-TV was destroyed, and went dark forever. The newsbreak included in this piece is one of the last bits of programming aired on WBNB-TV.

  • Transmitter blew from water, tower fell down, studios were badly damaged. The station never went back on the air.

  • I don't know what time, I was not there. They stayed on the air until the tower blew down somewhere in the night....

  • @Taj2g10 i was three years old, i live in nearby St Kitts my mother always told me about hurricane hugo and David, i grew up through many hurricanes but it was hurricane George in 1998 that really stood out from the rest :)

  • @rebafan19 Not sure really (since I haven't been or lived in St. Thomas myself to know that), but certainly feels that way.

  • @RetroToledo you felt like it was fuked up was it

  • my friend talia justice was sleeping peacefuly in her bed while pregnant with a girl.... and less than 2 hours later, she went into labor.

  • @rebafan19 I'm more pissed at the owners deciding not to rebuild the station afterwards and simply gave the license back to the FCC like it was nothing.

  • Is that story reported from a documentary?

yes or no. Please reply immediately.

  • @pmcmurtry were you guys angry that the station's transmitter was destroyed

  • I remember this night so clearly. There were 10 of us in a tiny closet holding a mattress up to the door all night. I remember being so frightened that our home was going to topple down the side of the hill that we were on. I will never forget the screeching sound of the roof peeling back from its foundation. It sounded as if a giant was ripping a tin can top off with his bare hands. The morning after the once rolling emerald peaks of STX were brown and stripped raw. There was chaos everywhere.

  • @Nightflightnj whoa... anyone hurt at wbnb?
