Why do they insist on calling Captain Marvel "Shazam"? Granted I haven't read any of the comics but I thought Shazam was the name of the wizard who gave Billy his powers.

@bellboy64 When Captain Marvel says Shazam, he's calling on the wizard to transform him. His name is still actually Captain Marvel.

@ranma763 Yeah, I know that but doesn't this particular movie(?) namedrop him as "Shazam"? It's just if it's true then it seems to be happening quite frequently- why don't they just call him Captain Marvel. It's not confusing (to me at least), I just fail to see the point of it.

I mean we don't call Superman "Kryptonian", we flat-out call him Superman. Why do they seem to skirt around with CM? It's odd treatment for such a cool and unique hero.

@ranma763 Btw, I've been talking about the titles of respective things. Eg. This one is called "Superman/Shazam". This is the sort of thing I'm meaning, I'm just wondering why they can't just call the series/him Captain Marvel.

DC can't use the name "Captain Marvel" on anything they produce or else they'll be sued by Marvel comics...

Until Marvel comics relinquishes the name to DC,he'll always be called SHAZAM...
