1:45 The pipeline is still allowed to shift between the heater pipes to allow for expansion and contraction with temperature changes. It isn't exactly bolted down.
Thanks for the footage fellow American. I'm from Indiana, never been up there. I had a moment thought about the pipeline and typed it in and I appreciate people like you taking time out of your life to post good videos like that. I also had the moment thought of riding along inside but it would have to be clean, warm, have a skylight view,and motorized chair to ride on. I'm a wimp.
Very nice video. My grandfather was a principle design engineer on the Pipeline. He also purchased the pipe itself from Japan and negotiated the right-of-way acquisitions from the Alaskan government, various Eskimo tribes, etc. The work that went into protecting the land and the wildlife from earthquake damage is nothing short of astonishing.
