This one minute experiment was for a challenge on Britannica Dreams' forum. The parameters were: one minute runtime limit, The Sims 2 engine, and no Sims present in the film. I used this as an excuse to try some experiments with smoothing the camera movements in this engine. This was also an opportunity to test a "vignette" idea I've been toying with for awhile where a one shot scene is gradually revealed to communicate layers of detail, the basic idea being that as the camera moves, the meaning of the scene is constantly evolving.

  • How did you get the ceilings if this was made in june and the apartment life ep that had the ceilings in it didn't come out till august?

  • I used some user made ceilings from ModTheSims2; I can't recall the name of the creator, but it was a ceiling tile system with a controller object to turn them on and off.

  • Overman, did you slow down the manual movement or the transition between keyframes? Nice experiment, and I really love your design of the house.

  • I didn't slow it down in post, but I did change some config settings in the game to make manual camera movement slower.

  • 1 minute challenge? Overman, your movie is one second short. ;)

  • LOL, true.

  • oohhh... Heres a story for the video.

It started with a tree and evolved to a romantic feel. Where the tree was like a family tree. and to have a family you must make them.

    -door slams-

    :D

  • People said it all, but for me the best is the slamming door in the end.

  • Hey, I got a question!! How'd you move the camera so smoothly without even tilt the camera a little?? I am trying to record my Sims as smooth as I can but I can't...

Is there another trick or something to do that?

  • the simplest video is the best video.
