Masdar City is the world's first sustainable city - it's taking shape in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

This movie was part of an interactive presentation made, by the architecture and real estate marketing agency, Wordsearch, for the World Future Energy Summit (WFES), January, 2010, hosted by Masdar.

  • Brilliant clip - thanks for sharing! John Hurt narrating, I believe. What's the programme?

  • @hayesbee Do you happen to know if there's going to be an agricultural sector?

  • @ChaosTheory369 Yup, think there were plans for sustainable agriculture. Have you tried Googling it?

  • There's no need to be TOTAL, although obviously that would be the ultimate goal. As for being so close to downtown, so what? Think you need to do a bit more research on Masdar if you're interested in it.

  • Actually, I think they can still be zero waste, if not zero carbon. Not sure what you mean by global food supply, but Masdar is already having a positive effect on the supply chains of a number of important materials, such as concrete. Why is everyone obsessed with being zero this and zero that? Any improvement is better than nothing.

  • @CanadianaNB If you'd have looked, you'd have seen this script is from Jan 2010. The goals changed all most as soon as the film had been made. Things have been scaled back, because of the global financial crisis, which has affected everyone, even Abu Dhabi (perhaps because it had to bail out Dubai).

  • @lauraglant To call this a nightmare is ignorant to the fact that there will always be cities in the world condensing people in them, but we might aswell make them clean and sustainable.

  • @rocoreb Any city in the world is the same idea "herding all the sheeple into their streets" but you walk along the streets in these cities and its full of disgusting air, trash all over the streets and soiled water supplies. If you want to live outside the city, the point is that Masdar is actually providing an energy source for you from the energy they dont use.

  • Sounds like a 1950s commercial for the future.

  • This NEEDS to be HQ!

  • what if i wanted to live outside the city? in the country side. this seems like a nightmare. herding all the sheeple into the big cities and hooking them up to the centrally controlled and planed grid....

  • also I <3 PONIES!!

  • Whats up VISCOM CLASS OF 2012!!! -Johno

  • WoW that's a dream city! I'll be the happiest person if I live there...

  • we could do this all arround the world like the vunus project and the zeitgeist movement suggests in a world without money and scarcity

  • this is how the real future of the world should look like.
