This is what Southend Borough Council think is a safe cycling facility.

It is not. It is absolutely deadly.

There is nothing to stop kids wobbling off the two inch kerb into oncoming traffic, and if they do wobble off the track, because of the kerb, they cannot wobble back onto the cycle lane. There is a totally inadequate door zone where cars can park beside the cycle lane and open doors into cyclists. This will cause injuries and possibly deaths.

Whoever approved this as 'safe' should be fired.

  • Fuck them.

    Probably cheeky little bastards anyway.

  • @G4WYZ reporting it to the police will not do you any fevers you have to report it to Southend Council, as the police don't deal with this civil enforcement office do, still take photos but parking law is only a civil law not criminal law. if you fined anything parked in the wrong place or on a cycle lane report it to the Council

  • And what a load of bollocks that lane is mate ! Why the hell is there no markings on that bit of road to tell walkers to keep off, I would ride up and down shouting at walkers to get off 'my' cycle lane....lol

  • Well the Council is well mwaning and it "ticks" the box.

Anyone parking on the path needs to be reported to the police and take photograpgs for evidence. (future usage)

  • @Alcedema I stand corrected........... is there info with all of theses lanes on?

  • The signs with 16 do not denote the minimum age.. it's just to denote the cycle lane's National Cycle Network number.

  • Think its for people over 16.............. saw it on a sign on the Shoebury end.........

also saw someone parked right on it up near the arches cafes

  • The council could fit some barriers, made from all the trees they have cut down.

  • Someone should ask the council there if they intend peoples cars to be somekind of barrier between kids on bikes and the main road? I also notice how almost all the cars in the vid seems to be parked on the chevron-type markings.

You;d also need to look into if there is any speed limit on cyclists - most of these seafront lanes have them.

  • Thank you for exposing this.
