This is what happens when you put ubuntu on a mac. At least mine. It works perfectly. More or less.

  • can you please message me a noob tutorial on how to install ubuntu on a single core g5 2.5gb ram and massive heatsynk? im a ubuntu noob and just need it for server uses

  • @FraeStudios It's pretty easy. Just burn ubuntu to a CD, put it in, and follow the instructions on screen. If you are unsure about something, just take the standard option.

Of course, you probably have this done by now...

  • @binarian42 I burned the CD and popped it in but it won't boot. I've tried it on other PCs and they seem to be booting fine, just not on the old G5. I've also tried restarting it and holding down C but that didn't seem to run it either.

  • @udunwanan0 That's because a G5 is not a PC. G5 has a different CPU architecture. The two are completely incompatible. You need to look for PPC (powerpc)-compatible Ubuntu, not i386, or amd64. Note that the latest version of ubuntu is usually NOT supplied for this arch, since it is very rare these days. I think the latest version they have (and the version I run) is 10.10.

Also, its hard to find it thru the site. Use google.

  • @binarian42 doesn't boot for a g5 for me either. has anyone found a reason?

  • @fuzzjunky Again, make sure that you have the PPC version of the install disk. Nothing else will work. Also, if I recall correctly, you have to tell it to boot from the CD drive. Hold down the 'C' key while it is booting.

  • @binarian42 hey thanks!! i'll check the pcc thing. but when i go to boot and hold c, nothing seems to happen, it goes to the question mark and sad face :(, it's like not booting from the cd yet i don't think
