Um, no music was "drone heavy" or anywhere near as dissonant before modernism came along. That's why I said it was related more closely to 20th century music because it openly uses dissonance. This is incredibly ambient and brooding. Very very dark. And how the hell does anyone know what music in the 10th century sounded like? There was no notation back then, so there are no records of it as far as I know.

Every time I hear anyone defend this band, the words "atmosphere" and "mood" come up and how people who hate it "don't give it a chance."

I am not one who will say this isn't music, but I think it's complete crap to say that conventional music is devoid of casting atmosphere or evoking thought. I just don't see their music as creative or worth the time listening to. I view this as asinine and a sucker for susceptible idiots who want to feel enlightened.

Personally I like the music to chill out a bit. Doesn't always have to be superb melodic and with 2000bpm tempo. There are a lot of good players in the world, but not so many who can put so much "feeling" (yes again.) into their playing.

After a hard day at work, grab a joint and maybe put a fucking candle on your desk and actually listen to it. It's not always about the skills.

I do like technical music aswell, but it pretty much depends on the mood you have when you start listening to it.

I'm a guitar tech and it is great to see fellow roadies getting their fifteen minutes before the band members hit the stage. Not my usual style for sound check but unique nonetheless. Try a different tuning, remain optimistic, and maybe someday you'll have your own band guys!!!

@Rhys666Metaller Or the 20th century. Look into some modernist classical and you'll get stuff even weirder than this.

And when the hell did music in the 10th century sound like THIS?? They would have murdered whoever wrote this.

partly due to the fact that most music was very similar to this style, very drone-heavy, only it was sung. only usually 4 notes were used. please don't make this into an argument. I know about modernism in music, Schoenberg, John Cage, etc I've got a degree in music, i know about these things.

With a name like Rhys666Metaller? I doubt it.
