When the cadets of 44F (City of Bradford) Squadron Air Cadets went Air Experience Flying at RAF Church Fenton yesterday, they took along their latest recruit to enjoy the thrills of aerobatics. Newly enrolled Cadet Pudsey Bear, mascot of the BBC Children in Need Appeal came along as well.
As part of the promotion to the BBC Children In Need Appeal, to be televised next week and locally from Meadowhall, Sheffield, the Bradford Cadets, ably supervised by Civilian Instructor Yaz Rahman, who just happens to be a director of BBC Look North in Leeds, Pudsey had been invited to fly with 9 Air Experience Flights commanding officer, Flight Lieutenant Henley Johnson, but at the last minute lost his nerve and bottled out.
Not wanting to let an opportunity be missed, Look North presenter Harry Gration stepped in to take his place and enjoyed a typical Air Experience Flight, including aerobatics and even managed a fly past of his own house before returning, clutching a sick bag, which was promptly handed to Pudsey to deal with. CI Yaz Rahman said, Its been a fun experience for the Cadets and the BBC Staff to help to promote the Children in Need Appeal. Next week we are supporting the Meadowhall event, along with the band from Yeadon Squadron and some other units. Clearly we are also working to get 44F and the air cadets generally, on the map. Mind you, Harry looked a bit green!
