"Nadia Ilse is looking forward to the new school year, when she will no longer be called "Dumbo" by her peers for her "elephant ears." To ward off school bullies who began taunting her in the first grade for her ears, Nadia begged her mother at the age of 10 for an otoplasty -- an operation to pin her ears back. The teen, now 14, was recently granted her wish by the Little Baby Face Foundation, a charity that provides free corrective surgery to children born with facial deformities...".* Ana Kasparian, Cenk Uygur, Jayar Jackson, and Jesus Godoy discuss/debate on The Young Turks.

you do realize her bones are STILL GROWING and this could damage her bones in her face, right? You do realize that it's the fault of the bullies for bullying her about having big ears and the school doing nothing about it? SHE SHOULD BE ABLE TO BE HAVE BIG EARS AND BE TREATED LIKE A FUCKING HUMAN BEING!! Yes I'm sooo jealous of her going through so much pain for society's fucked up standards and fucked up people. God forbid you have to look at a crooked face. God forbid you have kids.

Lets assume that she was never bullied, do you think she really liked her physical appearance? I believe she still disliked it. One does not need to be bullied to realize that you look below average. Do u think ugly people need others to tell them they are ugly? no

Even if she wasn't bullied, she clearly disliked her ears, so more than likely she would've gotten the surgery someday, now the rhinoplasty also made her look better, the chin implant was unnecessary, her chin was already prominent

Exactly. "She will be fine lol many people all around the world got bullied in high school for several reasons, and now they are doing more than fine." This is the exact reason why she shouldn't of had plastic surgery. Because many people get bullied. And many bullied people are fine as it passes. Which concludes, that plastic surgery isn't necessary.

She will be fine lol many people all around the world got bullied in high school for several reasons, and now they are doing more than fine, and in many cases leading the world, doing much better than the so called jocks, and bullies .. in fact, getting bullied makes you appreciate becoming a leader more than anyone else, the strong man who has known power all his life, may lose respect for that power, but a weak man knows the value of strength, and knows... compassion.

Sure, it may die with high school, but she's got 3 years left. Assuming she is now 15. You're trying to make light of a very ridiculous situation. When you're bullied to plastic surgery, there are problems within yourself. Not with your looks. Yes, I understand insecurities can be the result of the way you don't like the way this or that looks. I just personally don't agree with it. That's all.

    wut lol

she looks better than before, which in turn will make her feel better about her body image, you can even tell by the way she expresses herself in the after video, as long as she feels good, that is all that matters

bullying dies with high school, she has a long life ahead of her

How IS it needed? Yes, you can do whatever you'd like with your body. I honestly believe that because this female decided that she was bullied, that undergoing plastic surgery would fix her problems. I'm sure that if her bullies knew about her surgery, that would give them more reason to bully her more. So what did she win? Nothing.

why is it not needed? people can do whatever they want with their bodies. Unfortunately, many people think this way, that you need to have a deformed crooked nose in order to justify plastic surgery lol and that if you look fine, and get it done, then is not justifiable

I had rhinoplasty and chin implant myself, and I didn't do it because I was bullied or because my nose was fuked up, I wasn't insecure about it, I simply wanted to look better, does that make me vain? so be it lol

I was not comparing a cleft palate/lip to insecurities. While I agree that rhinoplasty is the most complex surgery, it is also not needed in cases like this. I'm not sure why we are even talking about a nose job in the first place. Cleft palate surgery is not as easy as you assume it is. Lip, yes. And while it can be offered free of cost, there are also people who don't have that chance to take advantage of it. You also need to take into account of corrective jaw surgery with cleft lip/palate.

even though it may not be a simple procedure, it is still less complicated than a rhinoplasty, which is why is considered the most difficult operation in plastic surgery

I'm no trying to minimize the severity of a cleft lip, but you cannot compare cleft lip in children with cosmetic plastic surgery such as nose job. If it was easy to get a rhinoplaasty for free as they make you believe here, everyone would be doing it lol

cleft lip surgery is offered for free more often than any other surgery
