As a Canadian I would have to say did Cuba, Russia, Chile and China make their people more prosperous with socialism??? To me the democratic countries left them in the dust. Plus as a Canadian we have free health care and social nets for the poor without having a dictatorship!!! Yes Bush is bad but he is getting kicked out in a year, your changes will be there forever!!!
I think your argument is weak because I could point out many more Democratic countries which have failed, it doesn't mean Democracy is unsuccessful. Look at how relatively new and hated Communism is - embargoes, black propaganda - of course it hasn't prevailed over democracy... yet.
