Johann Hermann Schein (1586-1630), sung by chamber choir Dualis in The Netherlands.
At the end of his life Jakob gives his childcren the orders how to live, puts his feet together on the bed, and dies. All his offspring gathers. Joseph falls to the ground, cries over his father's death and kisses him.
The text is Genesis 49:33 and 50:1: And as Jacob had completed the command(s) to his children / he drew his feet together on the bed / and passed away / and was gathered unto his people. / Then Joseph fell over his father's face / and wept over him / and kissed him.

I have had the pleasure of singing this motet one-on-a-part (I was the countertenor), doubled by viols. When we got to "und weinet über ihn" (3:00 in this rendition) there was an audible gasp from the audience.

Prachtig gezongen, maar het mag van mij wel wat bijtender - het is geen romantiek of zo. (We doen dit wel eens in Boxmeer maar het is eigenlijk te moeilijk voor ons.)
