Although I am an inactive Certified Bob Ross Instructor (CRI) of Landscape painting, I've chosen to delve into the proper science of painting. To be a true Artist you have to understand and develop a knowledge of colour mixing first. This is not an area covered by being a Bob Ross painter. You are replicating a painting & easy technique of Wet-In-Wet rather than applying the true skill of art. Bob Ross painting is fantastic but, I wanted to develop the true concept and knowledge of oil painting.
In this video I show a selection of water mixible oil colours and brushes I have bought recently. I'm using the Legacys Learn & Master Painting by Gayle Levee course to teach me the fundamentals.
The amount of items here seem a lot but, you can get them gradually.
I shall be uploading videos showing how I progress with colour identification and trying to recreate these from the paint mixings. I shall show the mistakes and frustrations too. I'm trying to set out an area in the house with appropriate lighting, heat and isolation. This is the first frustration and difficult consideration. I may choose the Conservatory but, it has light from all directions that is not good and, it gets very cold and expensive to heat continually.

  • I have been wonting to get Gayle Lev'ee's oil painting lessons . Please tell me how you like them.

  • @TheTinkerbell51 The course may seem very slow and boring but, it is pitched at all levels including children. Once you get past half way you begin to realise how it sets the foundation of painting right. You have to physically practice and, refer back to the notes for each lesson that are in the book. I highly recommend it.

  • a color hue is made from less expensive and less toxic colors to create a color (hue that is equivalent to that color. Cadmium colors are toxic and a hue of those colors are ment so that you can have that color without the toxic contents. I use hues a lot in order to ovoid the toxic colors. They are not bad but they can be a little off from the true color , plus they are not as expensive.

  • @13Moonchild Thank you for your comment.

I wanted a cadmium orange but, this was a hue. I've heard via Gayle Leveé that you should not use a hue. It will disappear!

I have set up a palette without this for now.

I am going to upload a video showing my set up soon.

    Thanks again.
