  • i dont understand the point of the zipper in this dress? can anyone please explain?

  • @777ILoveGod777 The zipper is there because the skirt material has zero stretch to it. So in order to get the dress over my bust and hips without ripping the seams it had to have a zipper. Even with the zipper it is still a little difficult. If this was being made for a child then it could be done without the zipper because children don't have busts and hips yet. Hope that answered your question.

  • What does a zipper foot do? I've sewn in zippers before but never with a zipper foot...

  • @silverbracelet6 A zipper foot is made so the needle sews next to it instead of between two 'feet' like a regular machine foot. That way you can sew close to the zipper teeth without the foot going up on them. It just makes it easier to sew a zipper and usually means a straighter stitch in the end. But it is totally ok to sew zippers without the zipper foot...I did it that way for years :)

  • I dont understand the zipper part where you had cut the seam to reveal the zipper. Can you maybe explain a little more because I really want to make this but I dont know how you did the zipper part.

  • @dreamer29999 The seam was sewn up to the marked point with a regular stitch then from the mark to the top (where the zipper goes) was sewn using a really wide basting stitch. Then the zipper was sewn in and the basting stitches were cut out. The basting stitches were there to hold the seam in place for a short time so that was the only thing removed. Since the zipper was sewn in on the inside of the skirt if those basting stitches aren't removed then you can't get to the zipper. Hope that helps

  • Whitney! Great job!

  • @silverbracelet6 When in my sewing class at school years ago, I was having a problem getting beyond a zipper. I had been using a zipperfoot. My girlfriend showed me how to use the regular foot for the zipper and I think the foot kept me from going to close to the zipper so it helped me sew it in pretty straight. Now of course I just use the zipperfoot, but back then - I had no control of the sewing machine at all, lol! My girlfriend helped me get an "A" in sewing for the first time ever.

  • amazing!!!:D

  • love it! So cute! I live the more difficult tutorials. I'm already a great sewer - but I love learning how to do stuff with OUT a pattern. Which is why I enjoy your ideas so much. Thanks alot!
